Matthew graduated from Strathclyde University and trained in Paisley. He qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and has worked as a civil litigation solicitor ever since. Matthew founded MJC LAW during 2016 and has driven the Firm forward since then. During this time, Matthew has developed important connections with Sheriff Courts and solicitors across the country. Matthew is head of our Court Department and specialises in representing clients at court. He has built a great deal of experience litigating contentious cases.

Matthew’s expertise is in protecting clients’ homes. Whether your home is at risk from an ex-partner, a mortgage lender, or a landlord, Matthew will be able to advise on a strategy to protect you.

Karianne joined MJC LAW in September 2020 and is a highly respected and trusted solicitor with extensive experience in Conveyancing and Private Client work. She graduated from Strathclyde University and was admitted as a solicitor in 2010. Karianne’s expertise comes from her deep understanding of how the conveyancing system works.  Known for her meticulous approach and commitment to excellence, she consistently delivers outstanding service. Her expertise and dedication make her a valued asset to the firm, strengthening client relationships and overall service quality.

MJC LAW staff - Emma Downey

Emma joined MJC LAW as Operations Manager in January 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from her time working with larger corporations. Her fresh ideas, energy, and discipline are key drivers of our continued growth. With a well-established reputation for excellence in working with solicitors, estate agents, and other professionals, Emma plays a vital role in shaping the future of MJC LAW.

Kellie joined MJC LAW in March 2026 as a newly qualified Solicitor. She studied law at Glasgow Caledonian University before completing her Diploma at the University of Glasgow.

Prior to qualifying, Kellie worked in the third sector with a women’s charity, gaining experience in sensitive and complex matters.

She brings valuable knowledge from her previous experience in public law and immigration matters and now focuses on family law as part of her role at MJC LAW. She plays a key role in supporting clients across a range of matters and is skilled in court work and oral advocacy, bringing confidence and clarity to her role and contributing to the strength of the firm’s litigation and advocacy work.

Ruth joined MJC LAW in July 2024 as a Business Development Assistant, bringing extensive experience in sales and client-focused roles. Ruth’s professional background is with a large multi-national company known for luxury and excellence. Her skills and experience are important to an exciting future for MJC LAW. She plays a key role in identifying opportunities, building relationships, and supporting the firm’s growth strategy. Through strategic initiatives, event planning, and community engagement, she plays an important role in contributing to the ongoing success and development of MJC LAW.

Calum joined MJC LAW in April 2023 through a Modern Apprenticeship in Administration, which he successfully completed during 2024.

He went on to complete his SVQ in Paralegal Practice in 2025 and has since progressed to a Trainee Legal Assistant position within the firm. He brings valuable experience from his previous administrative role and has built strong relationships within the team and with clients.

Calum plays a key role in supporting the solicitors in their day-to-day work and continues to build on his experience. He is also instrumental in managing and enhancing the firm’s online presence through social media, while supporting and guiding junior staff and passing on his knowledge and skills.

Jack joined MJC LAW as a Legal Assistant in July 2025. He plays a crucial role assisting the solicitors prepare cases and transactions. Jack holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an LLB with Distinction in Scots Law from the University of Glasgow.

Courtney plays a key role in supporting clients with legal aid applications, wills, and powers of attorney, and is committed to delivering clear, efficient, and professional support.Courtney joined MJC LAW as a Legal Secretary in August 2025 and is currently in the third year of her undergraduate LLB (Bachelor of Laws) degree at the University of Strathclyde. She brings valuable experience from her time at a large, full-service law firm, along with fresh energy that complements the team. Courtney plays a key role in supporting clients with legal aid applications, wills, and powers of attorney, and is committed to delivering clear, efficient, and professional support.

Jenni joined MJC LAW in March 2026 as an Administrative Assistant through a Modern Apprenticeship.

She previously worked as a receptionist and administrative assistant in a primary school, where she developed strong organisational and communication skills.

Jenni plays a key role in supporting both administrative and client-facing tasks, helping to ensure the smooth running of the office and a high standard of client care. As she continues to develop her skills, she takes on new responsibilities, contributing to the team’s efficiency.

MJC LAW staff - Stella

Stella joined MJC LAW in January 2025, bringing years of experience in warm welcomes, strategic napping, and expert observation. She takes her role seriously, ensuring every client has the opportunity for a proper greeting – should they wish to receive one. With a sharp eye for office activity and an unmatched talent for detecting snack opportunities, she keeps the team on their toes. Always looking her best, Stella is a valued presence in the office, adding a touch of calm and cheer to the workday.

Reggie joined MJC LAW in December 2025 as a young pup, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a touch of mischief to the office. He takes an active approach to his role, ensuring every visitor receives an enthusiastic welcome.

Always on the move, Reggie keeps the team entertained throughout the day, often making his way around the office and keeping a lookout for snacking opportunities.

Reggie plays a key role in maintaining a positive atmosphere in the office and keeping team morale high, bringing youthful energy and a touch of handsome charm to the team.
